Senko-ji Temple (Heguri-cho, Ikoma County) (千光寺 (生駒郡平群町))
Senko-ji Temple is a Buddhist temple belonging to the Daigo school of the Shingon sect situated in Heguri-cho, Ikoma County, Nara Prefecture. Its sango (literally, "mountain name"), which is the title prefixed to the name of a Buddhist temple, is Narukawasan. It is commonly known as Motosanjosenko-ji Temple. It is also run as a youth hostel.
Origin
It is said that the temple's history started when the Thousand Armed Kannon Bosatsu (or Deity of Mercy) was enshrined in the same location by EN no Gyoja, who practiced asceticism there. The temple is one of En no Gyoja's holy places and the 15th fudasho (temple where amulets are collected).
Fudasho
It is the 14th temple of the eighteen Butto Koji (Historical Temples with Pagodas). It is also one of En no Gyoja's holy places and a fudasho.
Cultural Properties
Bonsho (the Buddhist temple bell) is a Tangible Cultural Property designated by the prefecture. The statues of EN no Gyoja, Zenki and Goki (Oni demons at the front and back of the temple, and who serve En) are Tangible Cultural Properties designated by the town. The statues carved on a natural rock wall are Tangible Cultural Properties designated by the town.
